How Much To Spend On Tech? Check Out These Benchmarks

"How much should I be spending on technology?" is a question our team is frequently asked. My typical answer is "As much as you need to, but no more."

A more scientific approach is to look at tech spending benchmarks from other organizations – which is why I read the Gartner's IT Key Metrics Data 2011 Summary Report with interest. As you can see from the chart below (my summary from their data), there is quite a range in spending when you compare these four industry groups.
