In the recent past, a unique approach was developed to intervene with soldiers returning from combat. This distinctive and successful approach, which recognizes the emotional ramifications of military combat, is now being expanded to encompass the military conflicts of the present day. During 2004, teams of civilian mental health professionals were sent through the Department of Defense Family Support Operation to the 104th Area Support Group (ASG) to work with soldiers returning from the war in Iraq. The ASG was also available to work with soldiers’ families . . .
