Tenet Healthcare, which already is seeking to purchase a majority share of Waterbury Hospital, has announced plans to acquire Saint Mary's Hospital as well. The two hospitals would remain independent, but would share resources and services.

Tenet is a Dallas-based hospital chain with 79 acute-care hospitals and 189 outpatient facilities in 16 states. It is also seeking to acquire Bristol Hospital and Healthcare Group, and the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, which includes Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals.
