Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) in Illinois, Kansas, and Michigan will be eligible to participate in a three-year privately funded pilot program supported by a grant of $72 million to expand CCBHC capacity and sustainability. The project is launching in January 2026.

The pilot was announced by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing (the National Council) and the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD). Funding is being provided by a $72 million grant by Ballmer Group Philanthropy, founded by Connie and Steve Ballmer, to the National Council and NASMHPD.
