By August 10, 2021, more than 2.5 million people enrolled in a Health Insurance Marketplace plan during the special enrollment period (SEP) for HealthCare.gov and state Marketplaces. Over 1.8 million people signed up through HealthCare.gov and an additional 723,000 people enrolled in coverage through the 15 state-based Marketplaces that operate their own platform. The SEP opened on February 15, 2021 and ended on August 15, 2021.
