July 14, 2010 On July 14th, 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services published Part II of their report, “Modifications to the HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Enforcement Rules under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act; Proposed Rule”. This proposed rulemaking is being used to modify several rules and regulations issued under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. These modifications are to implement recent amendments that will strengthen the privacy and security protection of health information and improve the workability and effectiveness of these HIPAA Rules.
