Montana Senate Bill 270 requires private health insurance plans to cover services provided via telemedicine technologies. Telemedicine is defined as including real-time interactive audio, video, or other telecommunications technology, including store-and-forward-technology. Reimbursement is required for telemedicine services provided by multiple facility types and licensed health care professionals, including mental health centers, physicians, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, occupational therapists, addiction counselors, registered nurses, and advance practice registered nurses. The law goes into effect for health plans issued on or after January 1, 2014.
