CMS ICD-10 Implementation Guide For Small Hospitals

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the guide to help small hospitals prepare to transition from using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9 code sets to the ICD-10 code sets by October 1, 2014. The guide includes checklists and a recommended timeline for starting and completing each step of the transition process. The ICD-9 code set has about 14,000 codes; the ICD-10 set has about 69,000 codes. The switch affects health care providers and health insurers, as well as hospitals.
