Late on January 1, 2013, the United States Congress adopted House Resolution (HR) 8, to forestall an across-the-board reduction in federal spending due to sequestration and scheduled income tax rate increases; a provision of the legislation also blocked a 27% reduction in Medicare reimbursements to physicians. President Barack Obama has said he will sign the bill.
