The plaintiffs alleged that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) requirement that employer-sponsored health plans cover preventive services recommended by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) violated their religious rights. The PPACA requires health plans to cover, at no cost to the members, preventive services recommended by the USPSTF. The plaintiffs specifically objected to that the USPSTF recommendation that health plans cover medications for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection.
