Appeal Of Ruling On Americans for Safe Access v. U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration

Americans for Safe Access (ASA), a national medical marijuana advocacy organization appealed a lower court ruling in July 2011 denying a 2002 petition asking the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I substance to a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act. The ASA appeal cited more than 200 peer-reviewed studies about medical uses for marijuana that have taken place since the early 1990s when courts last considered evidence for reclassifying marijuana.
