On August 31 2011, the Legal Center for People with Disabilities filed a lawsuit against the Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS). The lawsuit accused the DHS of failure to conduct timely mental health competency evaluations for individuals charged with crimes leading to further delays of admission into the state psychiatric hospitals for individuals found incompetent to stand trial.
