The report was released on February 16, 2023, by the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) within the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The report presents the number of complaints OCR received in 2021 about violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and/or the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
