Honolulu Opens Hawaii’s First Homeless Detox Center To Link People To Treatment & Housing
The city of Honolulu, Hawaii is providing funding to the Institute for Human Services (IHS) to open the ‘Imi Ola Piha triage center, the city’s first detoxification center for homeless individuals to divert them from jail or emergency departments. The center will connect people to treatment and housing.
The center will be able to provide 24-hour care for up to eight people at a time to stabilize mental illness, addiction, and other urgent health conditions. The services include psychiatric medication to reduce withdrawal symptoms, counseling and support services.
