NYC Health + Hospitals Opens New Extended Care Unit For SMI At Kings County To Provide Rehabilitation & Community Reintegration

New York City Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H) opened a new, long stay unit at the NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County facility for consumers with severe and persistent mental illness (SMI). The new Extended Care Unit can house up to 25 people at a time. The unit offers psychopharmacological treatment, rehabilitative activities including music and art therapy, reading, and various exercises. Admission to the Extended Care Unit is voluntary and only available to people ready to leave acute inpatient psychiatric care.
