PrairieCare Breaks Ground On 30-Bed Youth Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital Expansion
Minnesota-based psychiatric health system PrairieCare has begun construction of a new 30,000-foot expansion of its inpatient hospital in Brooklyn Park. The expansion will add 30 new inpatient beds. At present, there are only 202 psychiatric hospital beds for youth in Minnesota.;
The state had previously been under a moratorium on the construction or expansion of inpatient mental health facilities. In 2021, the Minnesota Legislature permitted PrairieCare's expansion as part of its Omnibus Health and Human Services Finance Bill.
