Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) is reforming its prior authorization program and will relax approximately 20% of prior authorization requirements. The company said the move is an effort to improve health care quality, improve member experience, and reduce clinician administrative burdens.;;
According to the company, technology accelerates the prior authorization process, as most requests are submitted electronically. Jeniene Edwards, vice president of utilization management, said BCBSM processes about 87 million claims per year, with about 2% going through the review system.;
