On July 27, 2012, the United States Government Accountability Office released a formal letter to the United States Senate and House of Representatives on the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). The letter included a briefing that was requested following a February 2012 report. The briefing included information on the elderly offender pilot program as well as additional information on cost estimates for housing inmates in BOP facilities.
