Shattered Families: The Perilous Intersection of Immigration Enforcement and the Child Welfare System

The report is an analysis of the impact of United States immigration policies on the foster care system. In 2010, about 22% of the 397,000 people deported were parents of U.S.-born children. An estimated 5,100 children in foster care were there because a parent had been detained or deported by immigration enforcement. These children represented about 1.2% of all children in fostere care in 2010.
