Medicaid: States Use of Managed Care (GAO-12-872R)

In August 2012, the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report for Congress describing states use of Medicaid managed care, including the type of managed care arrangements they have in place, and their enrollment of populations with complex health care needs, in advance of implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010. GAO reviewed multiple data sources, such as CMSs Medicaid Statistical Information System (MSIS) and the Census Bureaus American Community Survey (ACS), and identified 12 indicators that were informative in understanding the context in which states use Medicaid . . .
