The authors are affiliated with Justice Strategies. They reviewed conditions in facilities that house illegal immigrants detained for being in the country without formal permission. The authors noted that the facilities are operated by private corrections companies under contract with the federal Bureau of Prisons. Most detainees are held for no more than 90 days before being deported.
