On July 21, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) published this final rule regarding establishment of disincentives in the 21st Century Cures Act for health care provider organizations that have committedd information blocking. This final rule implements the provision of the 21st Century Cures Act specifying that a health care provider organization determined by the Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General to have committed information blocking shall be referred to the appropriate agency to be subject to appropriate disincentives set forth through notice and comment . . .
