2010: National Estimates of Drug-Related Emergency Department Visits

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services AdministrationÂ’s report presents national estimates of drug-related visits to hospital emergency departments (ED) in the year 2010, based on data from the Drug Abuse Warning Network. The findings show a 94% increase in the number of drug-related ED visits between 2004 and 2010, and large increases in a wide range of pharmaceuticals over that period. In 2010 there were over 125 million general ED visits, of which about five million were related to drugs.
