Founded in 1912 as Buffalo City Hospital, Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) is a 550-bed hospital that offers a comprehensive scope of services. It is a member of the Great Lakes Health System and is the primary teaching hospital for the University at Buffalo. It is also a New York State public-benefit corporation. Their mission statement is, “To provide every patient the highest quality of care delivered with compassion.”

Headquartered on the East Side of Buffalo, New York, ECMC employs over 3,000 staff and serves 70,000 patients annually.
