Northeast Ohio Medical University To Launch Program To Train Certified Mental Health Assistants
Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) plans to launch a master’s level training program for certified mental health assistants by late 2026. The program will provide two years of training in behavioral health, mental illness, and addiction disorders. After students in the program earn their master's degrees and state certification, they will work under the supervision of a physician, who will make the initial diagnosis. The assistants will carry out the treatment plan, freeing physicians for more complex cases. The new provider type is intended to alleviate the state’s shortage of mental health professionals.
