On January 7, 2013, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), implemented new codes for Medicare telepsychiatry services. The new Medicare codes align with the new American Medical AssociationÂ’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) revised codes for most face-to-face psychiatric services that went into effect on January 1, 2013. The codes used for telepsychiatry are the same as those used for face-to-face encounters.
