Dear Colleague Letter Regarding Parental Medication-Assisted Treatment For Opioid Use Disorder Coverage

On February 2, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published this "Dear Colleague" letter regarding parental medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder (MOUD) coverage. In the letter, the entities are informed that states will be able to use Title IV-E prevention funding to help pay for MOUD as a “well-supported” preventive intervention for parents with opioid use disorder (OUD) of children at imminent risk of entering foster care.
