WellCare Of Kentucky Launches Food Is Medicine Program In Eastern Kentucky
WellCare of Kentucky and the Centene Foundation announced a $550,000 investment to launch the WellCare Food is Medicine Program to address diabetes in rural communities across Eastern Kentucky. The program builds on an existing partnership with Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC), a community health center, and Community Agricultural Nutritional Enterprises, Inc. (CANE), which provides meals using locally grown produce.
Food is Medicine programs integrate nutrition services into health care delivery. Through MCHC and CANE, eligible Medicaid enrollees with diabetes will receive weekly home-delivered, medically tailored meals, along with recipes and educational materials, for up to three years.
