Florida Department Of Juvenile Justice Closes 80-Bed Hillsborough County Detention Center

The Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Hillsborough County, Florida, closed at the end of August 2026. The closure resulted in the transfer of nearly 40 young people to juvenile detention facilities in nearby counties.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) characterized the closure as part of a long-planned move to a new detention facility.
