Michigan v. BCBS of Michigan
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a federal antitrust lawsuit on October 8, 2026, against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The complaint alleges that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) illegally maintained a health-insurance monopoly. The complaint alleges that BCBSM and other Blue Cross insurers divided customers and territories, limited competition, and used BCBSM’s market power to raise consumers’ costs while pushing provider payments very low. It says BCBSM holds 65% of Michigan’s health-insurance market and 79% of the preferred provider . . .
