New York Department Of Financial Services Provider Requirements For Insurance Reimbursement Of Applied Behavior Analysis

On January 10, 2014, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation to create a licensing procedure for professionals providing applied behavior analysis (ABA), an evidence-based treatment for autism spectrum disorder. New York implemented an autism insurance mandate in 2012, but the legislation creating the mandate called for insurers to reimburse for ABA services provided by licensed professionals. As a result, only ABA professionals holding state credentials a psychiatrists, psychologists, or social workers were eligible for insurer reimbursement.
