Federal Audit Faults Pennsylvania Handling Of Medicaid Behavioral Health Program

OPEN MINDS, The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News An audit by the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of Pennsylvania's Medicaid Behavioral HealthChoices program found that some counties made unreasonably high "profits" on the program. By "profit," the auditors meant money remaining after counties had paid for direct Medicaid behavioral-health services. The report, released on November 26, 2003, said eight unidentified counties in fiscal 2002 made profits greater than 10%, including one county with a profit of 38%.
