HMO Psychiatrists Earn About 16% Less Than Psychiatrists in Group Practices

OPEN MINDS The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News According to a new study by Hay Management Consultants, psychiatrists in private group practice had earnings in 1987 approximately 16% greater than psychiatrists employed by HMOs. A Hay spokesperson explained that the variation between private group member incomes and HMO incomes of psychiatrists does not necessarily mean that HMOs do not provide comparable compensation.
