Private Prison Operator, Cornell Companies, to Be Bought by Veritas Capital for $245 Million

OPEN MINDS, The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News On October 9, 2006, Cornell Companies Inc. (Cornell), an operator of private prisons, agreed to be bought by investment firm Veritas Capital for approximately $245 million in cash. The deal also includes the assumption of another $273.6 million in debt. Once the deal is closed, Cornell will be a private firm. Cornell, which operates 78 facilities used for prisons, juvenile detention centers, and rehabilitation centers, said its board unanimously approved the deal and will recommend that shareholders also back the bid.
