Update on Mandated Mental Health Laws Reported

OPEN MINDS The Behavioral Health & Social Service Industry Analyst Industry News Currently 27 states have some form of mandated mental health coverage according to a report that appeared in Psychotherapy Finances, Volume 16, Number 5. Of these, 14 have ‘mandatory coverage” requirements for certain types of policies. Thirteen have mandates that mental health coverage be made available for an extra premium for certain types of policies. Colorado has included HMOs in its mandated coverage and Alaska’s new mandate prohibits higher copayments or deductibles for behavioral health treatment.
