On June 13, 2013, the State of Rhode Island and the City of Providence entered an interim settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in which the state and city pledged to stop relying on sheltered workshops as employment for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).
