New Jersey Assembly Bill 1134; An Act Concerning Rights For Parents Of Persons With Intellectual Disabilities

On January 28, 2013, the New Jersey Assembly unanimously passed legislation to enact a “bill of rights” for parents of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The legislation, Assembly Bill 1134; An Act Concerning Rights For Parents Of Persons With Intellectual Disabilities, addresses communications between the state Department of Human Services, service provider organziations, and parents of individuals with I/DD. The New Jersey Senate version of the bill has been referred to the Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee. If enacted, the legislation would go into effect 90 days later.
