New Jersey DHS Settlement Of DRNJ I & DRNJ II Olmstead Lawsuits

On February 28, 2013, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced in a budget address that the state has settled two Olmstead lawsuits; the settlement agreement calls for the Department of Human Services (DHS) to move at least 600 developmental center residents to community placements by 2017. The two lawsuits were filed by Disability Rights New Jersey (DRNJ); both protested the state's failure to develop community-based services and placements for individuals with developmental disabilities, to provide services in the least restrictive setting.
