Customizing Health Homes For Children With Serious Behavioral Health Challenges
In March 2013, Sheila A. Pires, founding partner of the Human Service Collaborative, prepared a resource paper for the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) detailing the reasons why health homes under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) ought to be customized for children and youth with serious behavioral health challenges. The paper includes sections on the core provisions for these health homes, distinguishing children with serious behavioral health challenges from adults with mental illness, and how to customize the health homes using intensive care coordination with high fidelity wraparound.
