Trends in Inpatient Hospital Deaths: National Hospital Discharge Survey, 2000–2010

The analysis used data from the National Hospital Discharge Survey, an annual survey of discharges from non-federal, non-institutional, short-stay hospitals, or general hospitals in the United States. The analysis focused on inpatient hospital utilization of patients who died, including the number, demographic factors, and the length of stay. The analysis did not include deaths of patients who were discharged to other settings.
