Margaret Barber Retires From Head Of South Carolina Juvenile Justice Department
Margaret Barber officially retired from the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice at the beginning of January after spending four years as the agency’s director and 45 years in social services. Barber, who called her retirement “bittersweet,” said she never intended to go into a career in juvenile justice. When she graduated from then-Winthrop College in 1968, with a degree in sociology, she got a job as a probation officer in York County.
