California Department Of Corrections & Rehabilitation Defendants’ Response To April 11, 2013 Court Order Requiring List Of Proposed PopulationReduction Measures; Court-Ordered Plan

On May 2, 2013, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) submitted a court-ordered list of measures to reduce prison crowding as required by a federal court panel overseeing the state’s compliance with a settlement agreement. CDCR had asked the court to release the state from the prison population reduction requirements. As of April 2013, the prison population was at 150% of capacity, or 9,300 more inmates than the court-ordered cap of 137.5% of design capacity.
