Department Of Defense Annual Report On Sexual Assault In The Military, Fiscal Year 2012

The Department of Defense (DoD) reported the sexual assault rate throughout the U.S. armed forces. In 2012, service members reported 3,374 sexual assaults in 2012, 5.7% more than the 3,192 reported in 2011. Military officials estimate that service-wide, 19,000 service members were assaulted in 2011 and 26,000 assaulted in 2012. The report also recommends how DoD could improve its response to sexual assault and improve system accountability.
