Three Judge Panel Opinion & Order Requiring California Department Of Corrections and Rehabilitation To Implement Amended Plan To ReducePrison Population By December 31, 2013

On June 20, 2013, a three-judge panel ordered California to release 9,600 state prisoners by the end of December 2013 to reduce prison overcrowding and comply with a previous court order. On June 28, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) filed a motion to request a stay the order. CDCR seeks a stay because it intends to appeal the release order to the Supreme Court. As of July 3, the appeal had not been posted. The state has until July 13 to submit the appeal to the Supreme Court.
