Kentucky Cabinet For Health & Family Services Annual Child Abuse & Neglect Fatality & Near Fatality Report 2013

The state presented data about the number of child fatalities or near fatalities due to physical abuse or neglect over the past five years. The state noted that more than half of children who died or nearly died of maltreatment had been known to the child welfare system. However, in 95% of the child deaths/near fatalities of children known to the system, the incident did not represent repeat maltreatment.
