Amended Version Of California Senate Bill 105: Plan To Reduce Prison Inmate Population To Comply With Court Order By December 2013

On September 11, 2013, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) released its plan to reduce the state prison population by 7,863 inmates to meet the terms of a federal court order limiting the prison population to 137.5% of prison capacity. The plan calls for CDCR to release some inmates to local county supervision and others will be housed in out-of-state prisons. The plan is the result of legislation that allows the state to comply with the court order but avoid the early release of prisoners deemed a danger to public safety . . .
