Maine Pharmacy Association, et al., v. Maine Department of Professional & Financial Regulation Seeking Injunction Against LD 171 Allowing Personal Importation Of Prescription Drugs From International Mail Order Prescription Pharmacies

On October 9, 2013, a new Maine law went into effect and made Maine the first state in the U.S. to officially allow residents to directly import cheaper prescription drugs from pharmacies licensed in Canada, Britain, Northern Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. The new law is opposed by Maine pharmacy groups, including the Maine Pharmacy Association, the Retail Association of Maine, and the Maine Society of Health System Pharmacists as well as the national Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, which filed a lawsuit in federal court on September 10, 2013, to challenge the Maine law . . .
