Duke University Health System Hires New Medical Leader
A. Eugene Washington was hired by the Duke University Health System as president and chief executive in January. Washington, a gynecology professor who is currently dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine and CEO of the UCLA Health System, will assume his new role at Duke on April 1. He will oversee the sprawling academic health care system with a medical school, nursing school, biomedical research program and three regional hospitals. He will succeed Victor Dzau, who left last June for a new job as president of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
