California Department Of Managed Health Care Accusation Against Blue Shield Of California Regarding Denials Of Speech & Occupational Therapy

The California Department of Managed Health Care’s (DMHC’s) accusation against Blue Shield of California alleges the organization improperly denied speech therapy services to 14 of its plan enrollees since July 2011. This accusation also alleges that Blue Shield violated a number of health and safety codes which require health plans to cover medically necessary speech therapy. The DMHC seeks for Blue Shield to identify and reimburse any enrollees who were denied these services.
