Kansas Senate Bill 12: an Act Concerning Insurance Coverage for Autism

January 2009 "Kate's Law" (Senate Bill 12) requires private health insurance companies to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder for individuals up to the age of 21. The maximum annual benefit is $75,000. Coverage must be provided for treatments provided or ordered by a licensed physician or a licensed psychologist who determine the care to be medically necessary. Covered treatments include: diagnosis, habilitative, or rehabilitative, pharmacy, psychiatric, psychological, therapeutic, and ABA. Small businesses with 50 or fewer employees may opt-out of providing this coverage and the provisions of the bill apply only . . .
